Custom Carton Printing in Johannesburg

Gateway produces folding cartons for retail, food, cosmetics, and pharma brands across South Africa. From our Edenvale facility, we manage the full process — structural dielines, litho or digital printing, die-cutting, and specialty finishes — coordinated end to end.

Substrates we run

  • SBS (solid bleached sulphate) — the standard for premium retail cartons
  • GC1 folding boxboard — for food, health and cosmetics packaging
  • Kraft and unbleached stocks — natural finish
  • Recycled and FSC-certified stocks

Finishes

  • Hot foil stamping — gold, silver, holographic, various colours
  • Blind and registered embossing / debossing
  • Spot UV, matte and soft-touch coatings
  • Window patching for product visibility
  • Custom die-cuts and structural shapes

Turnaround

All carton orders — new and repeat — ship within 10–12 working days from artwork approval.

Who we produce cartons for

Retail and FMCG brands come to us for shelf-ready folding cartons that hold colour across long print runs — matte or gloss lamination, spot UV highlights, and structural shapes that stand up on-shelf. Food and beverage clients specify grease-resistant boards, tamper evidence, and correct GS1 barcodes for scan-first-time reliability on retail checkouts. Cosmetics and personal care brands lean into foil stamping, embossing and soft-touch coatings for premium unboxing. Pharma and health customers rely on our compliance workflow — batch coding zones, braille where required, and colour-managed proofs signed off before we plate.

From artwork to press

Once we receive artwork, our pre-press team checks trapping, bleed, minimum type sizes, spot colours and dielines against the structural CAD file. You approve a proof — digital for repeat work, or a wet proof / contract proof for critical colour — before we plate. We keep every approved dieline and colour target on file, so a repeat order picks up exactly where the last one stopped, without re-proofing every element from scratch.
