Our story
How We Started
From a single press in Edenvale to a full-service carton and label manufacturing partner for South African brands.
Gateway Print & Packaging started in 2013 with a simple idea: South African brands deserved a packaging partner that treated every job — from a 500-carton startup run to a 500,000-unit national launch — with the same care.
A family-run start
We opened our doors as a small, family-run print shop focused on folding cartons for local FMCG clients. In the early years the team was tight-knit — a handful of people covering pre-press, press, and finishing — and that hands-on culture still shapes how we work today.
Moving to Edenvale
As demand grew, so did the equipment list. We moved into our current facility at Rutland Works in Edenvale, on Johannesburg's East Rand, to bring litho and digital carton printing, die-cutting, and speciality finishing under one roof. Having everything in-house means fewer handoffs, tighter proofing, and turnarounds our clients can plan around.
Where we are today
Today Gateway produces cartons, product labels, and speciality finishes for brands across FMCG, food, health, beauty, and pharma — from established houses to challenger brands launching their first SKU. We deliver across Johannesburg, Midrand, and Pretoria, and nationwide on request.
The equipment has changed. The industries we serve have grown. What hasn't changed is the belief that packaging is the first thing a customer touches — and it should feel considered.
